Babae Plus

Babae Plus, the first and only existing support group of women living with HIV in the Philippines was established in 2004. Their vision is to create An Independent Lead Organization of Empowered and Supportive Women Living with HIV/AIDS.

To reach the vision they have committed themselves to 4 goals, which include:

• Capacitate WHIV to address and respond to psychosocial challenges by the end of 2015
• Empower WHIV to ensure WHIV are economically contributing to family and community by the end of 2015
• WHIV and their affected families participate meaningfully in sustain SRH and PMTCT service in the national response
• By the end of 2015, WHIV are active partners to decrease sexual violence against women and children

The network has  become a vital lifeline for many women living with HIV in the Philippines and provides support on psychosocial and economic concerns. Babae Plus reaches out to its members through other networks working at the local level.

Babae Plus has implemented projects on HIV/AIDS, Reproductive Health and Children's Rights, among others, under the support of national and international agencies including Family Planning Organization of the Philippines, ADHIKA, UNICEF and UNFPA. Under the Global Fund Round 6 (GF-R6) HIV/AIDS Project in the Philippines, Babae Plus will soon implement the first national program on Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV (PMTCT).

The organization is a member of Girls and Women HIV/AIDS Network (GWHAN), Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC) and the Technical Working Group of GF-R6 in the Philippines. Its members had been active participants of the 3rd National Consultation and Consensus Meeting of PLHIVs in the Philippines.

The group looks forward to becoming a member of the International Community of Women (ICW).
